The Costa Rican government reportedly gave permission for Elon Musk’s broadband provider Starlink to operate in the country in Q4 this year.
CommsUpdate reported, that the 15-year license was approved by the regulator Superintendence of Telecommunications (Sutel) in July, and it will expire on August 9, 2028.
Starlink is permitted to operate in the following frequencies: 14000MHz-14500MHz and 10700MHz-12700MHz.
In Latin America, Starlink operates in the Central American nations of El Salvador, Panama and Guatemala, Honduras will see access in Q4 this year and Belize is set for a 2024 launch. No plans for launch in Nicaragua.
Starlink has a constellation of around 4,000 satellites in orbit with ambitions to boost that number to 42,000. Over 60 countries have authorised Starlink to offer broadband connectivity.
