Vodafone Hungary has set out its 5G coverage goals up to the end of 2020.
The operator has been providing commercial 5G services in the centre of Budapest since October last year. It achieved this ahead of Hungary’s auctions in March this year by using an existing holding of 3500MHz spectrum.
Vodafone acquired concessions for 3500MHz and 700MHz spectrum in this year’s auctions, although the latter is not valid until September. The operator will use its new spectrum to boost its 5G coverage in the Budapest area as well as areas around Lake Balaton, including the towns of Balatonfured and Siofok, by the end of summer.
Additionally, Vodafone is planning to deliver coverage to cities and university towns, including Debrecen, Eger, Gyor, Miskolc, Pecs, Szeged and Szekesfehervar. This will involve it increasing its total number of deployed 5G base stations to around 300.
